Inner Knowing - It’s Not Just a Gut Feeling… It’s So Much More
People talk a lot about intuition like it’s just a gut feeling. And sure, that’s part of it. Let’s be clear, inner knowing isn’t just a weird stomach flip. It’s a full-body, multi-sensory, soul-level signal. Sometimes it whispers. Sometimes it slaps. When it hits… you know.
For me, that realization came at fourteen. Not the first time I had a gut feeling, however the first time I truly recognized it for what it was, something beyond nerves or imagination. Something real. Something sacred.
The Day I Knew I Knew
It was the end of grammar school, and I was part of a group being “recruited” by the local all-boys Catholic high school. They invited a handful of us to attend one of their wrestling matches. The idea was clear, get us hyped to enroll. And for a while, I thought I might. Most boys in my neighborhood went there. It was expected.
The school’s van picked us up outside our church. It was packed with high school wrestlers, coaches, a few dads, and a thick cloud of judgment. I was already used to the taunts… “space cadet,” “freak,” “fag”. So, I braced myself. That kind of cruelty wasn’t new. It was the background static of my everyday life back then.
The matches themselves? Fine. The team did well. Then on the ride back, something shifted.
When we arrived back at the school and I stepped out of the van, I felt like I’d been punched in the stomach. My gut clenched hard. This time, it didn’t stop there.
A wave of energy surged up through my entire body.
I felt nauseated. Cold sweat. Tunnel vision. No visible threat. No danger. My entire system lit up like a warning siren.
We were only inside the building for five minutes, tops. That feeling? It followed me all the way home.
Even my friend’s dad noticed I was quiet, unusual for me. When he dropped me off, he told my parents. They asked me what happened. And all I could say was, “I can’t go to that school.”
And they didn’t push.
That moment changed everything. I was accepted and ended up going to a prep school in the city instead… and that decision had a MASSIVE impact on who I became.
Because I listened.
Inner Knowing Is a Full-Body Experience
Let’s clear this up once and for all, your inner knowing doesn’t just live in your gut.
Yes, it can show up as a twist in your stomach. It can also be:
A cold sweat out of nowhere
A chill down your spine when someone walks into the room
A subtle electric “zap” when your hand brushes someone’s
A flash of memory or insight that doesn’t belong to your current moment
You walk into a room and instantly know who’s happy to see you, and who’s not.
You shake hands and feel something off.
You hear someone speak and feel a mental fog roll in.
These aren’t random. These are data points from your intuitive system. And the more you listen, the sharper they become.
You're Not Imagining It
Have you ever told yourself, “I’m probably just overreacting” when your whole body is screaming otherwise?
You’re not overreacting. You’re sensing.
You’ve likely been conditioned to ignore these hits. Told they’re paranoia, anxiety, or imagination. Especially if you grew up being “different,” being too sensitive, or being dismissed when you expressed your knowing.
Here’s the truth…
Your inner knowing is a survival skill and a soul skill.
It’s part ancient instinct, part spiritual radar. And when you learn to trust it? You stop walking into situations that drain you. You stop ignoring red flags. You stop needing external validation for what you already knew in your bones.
Intuition Evolves with Use
The more I followed those gut hits, full-body alerts, and sudden flashes, the more refined my knowing became. It’s like any muscle, the more you work it, the stronger it gets.
I started journaling them. Not the long, flowery kind, just quick notes:
Felt off when I entered this building
Had a dream that mirrored today’s news story
Sparked when I shook that person’s hand, follow up later?
That’s how you train your system. Not to force intuition, to recognize it, document it, and build a relationship with it.
Over time, you’ll learn what’s signal and what’s noise. You’ll learn the texture of a warning vs. a calling. You’ll know when it’s fear and when it’s truth.
My Final Thoughts… Your Inner Knowing is a Superpower
If you’ve ever dismissed your gut feelings, welcome to the club. Most of us did at some point. The moment you stop gaslighting your own instincts and start listening to them?
That’s the moment your entire life shifts.
Inner knowing isn’t just “vibes.” It’s guidance. It’s truth. It’s yours.
And the sooner you start trusting it, the sooner you begin living a life that actually feels aligned, supported, and sovereign.
So, the next time your stomach flips, your hands spark, or your whole body says “no”, pay attention.
It might just be your soul clearing its throat to speak.
Are you listening?
